Jakarta (ANTARA) - The family of the victim in the murder of a bank branch manager, identified by the initials MIP (37), is experiencing deep trauma, particularly his children, who must now grow up without a father.

“I find it difficult to express this in words. The deceased’s children are still too young,” said the victim’s brother, Taufan, following the sentencing hearing for the kidnapping and murder case at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that it is difficult to describe the psychological burden the family has endured since the case began nearly a year ago. The children are still very young and have lost a father who was a vital part of their lives. Taufante added that while adult family members may eventually understand and accept this bitter reality, the children face a long life ahead marked by a significant loss at an early age.

This loss impacts not only the children’s current emotional state but also threatens their future development, social lives, and their ability to pursue their ambitions. “The psychological impact, the impact on their environment, and how they will achieve their dreams in the future—this is a major concern for the family, and those outside do not know what we are going through,” Taufan explained.

Beyond the children, the deceased’s wife and extended family are also mourning. The family emphasised that regardless of the legal outcome, the loss is irreplaceable. Amidst their ongoing grief, the family hopes that the legal process will provide a sense of justice, believing that justice is measured not only by the verdict but by how the state provides protection and certainty for victims and their families.

In its verdict, the panel of judges sentenced the first defendant, Serka Mochamad Nasir, to 13 years in prison; the second defendant, Kopda Feri Herianto, to seven years; and the third defendant, Serka Frengky Yaru, to one year. The first and second defendants were also ordered to be dishonourably discharged from military service. Additionally, the first defendant was ordered to pay restitution of Rp750 million, while the second defendant must pay Rp500 million.
