Family Demands Indonesia Repatriate Karim Miqdad
The family of Palestinian national Abdul Karim Raed Miqdad (AKRM) has stated that Indonesia must take responsibility for its decision to comply with the request of the Zionist entity by deporting him to Cyprus. The AKRM family asserted that the deportation decision represents a betrayal by Indonesia as the world’s largest Muslim country that supports Palestine.
The AKRM family is asking Indonesia to atone for this inconsistent stance by bringing AKRM back to Jakarta. This was conveyed by the AKRM family through an open letter to the Indonesian Government via Republika on Friday (21/8/2026).
In the letter, the AKRM family expressed hope that Indonesia, which should be the foremost country expected to unite the common struggle for the independence of all Palestinian people from Zionist Israeli occupation, would act accordingly. As the world’s largest Islamic country, the AKRM family also hoped that Indonesia, as a community, could protect its fellow Muslim family from Palestine.
However, that hope was dashed. According to the AKRM family, Indonesia instead allowed AKRM, who has long been known as a Palestinian activist and preacher and had long taken refuge in a brotherly country, to be deported to Cyprus. The AKRM family believes the deportation was carried out at the request of Zionist Israel. The following is the open letter from the AKRM family to the Indonesian Government, which was also submitted to Republika.
“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
On behalf of myself, and on behalf of my brothers and sisters and my family, and on behalf of the people of Gaza, the oppressed and suffering people, and on behalf of the sacred souls of our martyrs, and on behalf of the free people of Indonesia, and on behalf of all free people in this world, we all unite as one.
We demand that the Indonesian government — as the government of an Islamic country — rectify its violation of the decree of Allah the Almighty: ‘Innamal mu’minuna ihwa’ (Indeed, the believers are brothers). For a brother would not hand over his brother to a base controlled by Mossad, the enemy of our nation.
We also demand that the government atone for its violation of the saying of the Prophet Muhammad SAW: ‘Al-muslimu akhul muslim, la yazlimuhu wa la yakhdzuluhu wa la yahqiruhu’ (A Muslim is a brother to another Muslim. He does not wrong him, does not abandon him in hardship, and does not belittle him).
The Indonesian government, which governs 280 million Muslims, has not only failed to support a Palestinian Muslim, but has also failed to protect him, his children, his wife, his mother, and all his people.
Based on this injustice and betrayal, we demand that the Indonesian government atone for its actions by returning my beloved father, Abdulkarim Miqdad, to us, his children, through direct intervention and firm and serious pressure on the Cypriot government to secure his release.
If the government does not do so, history will record that the largest Islamic country handed over a good and virtuous Palestinian Muslim to a base ruled by a criminal entity that has committed the most heinous crimes in history.”
