Family census in S. Sumatra
PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: A family census as the last part of the national census conducted since 1994 is now underway in South Sumatra. The three-month project started on Oct. 1 and will end on Dec. 21 this year.
Head of the provincial planned parenthood coordinating board Safarudin Gumay said on Monday that 3,000 officers were being assigned to gather information in Palembang, for their last door- to-door data taking.
He added that the manual data-gathering operation was to be wound up this year and thereafter followed by a computerized one.
The census is meant to renew the map of family planning and population development in the region in order to evaluate the benefits and shortcomings of ongoing programs. -- Antara
