Family: 21cm Wire Left Inside Patient's Heart at AWS Samarinda Hospital

The condition of Ediyanto Wong, a patient who previously underwent a catheter lab procedure at RSUD Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie (AWS) Samarinda, remains weak following heart surgery in Singapore. During the operation, the family claims doctors discovered a wire measuring approximately 21 centimetres (cm) inside Ediyanto’s body, rather than the previously reported 2 cm.

This information was shared by Ediyanto’s family lawyer, Jafert Musa. He stated that the surgery was performed after the patient was suspected of developing a heart infection.

“Mr Ediyanto Wong underwent surgery a few days ago. As of last Wednesday, he underwent heart surgery because his heart was suspected of having an infection,” said Jafri, as reported by detikKalimantan on Friday (2/10/2026).

According to Jafri, doctors in Singapore subsequently performed major surgery. During the procedure, a wire was found to be approximately 21 cm in length.

“During that major surgery, a wire measuring about 21 cm was discovered. Of that, 16 cm was in the coronary artery and 5 cm had entered the heart’s blood vessels,” he said.

Jafri noted that Ediyanto’s condition had become quite frail. The patient is currently undergoing recovery in a Singaporean hospital and is able to communicate with his family, despite his weakness.

“His condition was quite weak. So, he is in the recovery process. He can speak and has left messages for us,” he added.

Jafri explained that the discovery of the 21 cm wire differs from the information previously received by the family. In prior communications between doctors in Singapore and doctors at MF, it was mentioned that the wire was approximately 2 cm.

According to Jafri, the 2 cm measurement referred to the portion of the wire visible during previous examinations. However, during the major surgery, it was revealed that the wire located within the heart measured 21 cm.

“It turns out that 2 cm was just the part that was visible to the naked eye through the endoscope. After the surgery, it turned out the length was 21 cm,” he concluded.
