Families Urged to Play Active Role in Creating a Safe Digital Space
The role of women as a main pillar in the family faces increasing challenges in the current digital era. This was expressed at the opening of the National Working Meeting of the Aliansi Perempuan Peduli Indonesia (Alppind), held at the Tavia Heritage Hotel in Central Jakarta on Friday, 8 May 2026.
Alppind is a community organisation that serves as a platform for professional women across various sectors. Established in 2018, Alppind has a grand vision and mission to build and strengthen family resilience towards a dignified society. Alppind is also one of 40 Islamic community organisations that are members of the federation joined in BMIWI.
This year’s Alppind National Working Meeting adopts the theme “Strengthening the Role of Women in Building Family and National Resilience in the Digital Era”. The selection of the digital world-related theme is considered important because parents, especially mothers, currently face extraordinary challenges with the increasing openness of information channels for families through the digital world.
“Women play a significant role in maintaining family health, children’s education, and supporting the family economy. Alppind can be a space for collaboration and synergy,” said Arifah Choiri Fauzi, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, who served as the keynote speaker and opened the 2026 Alppind National Working Meeting.
The latest BPS data shows that 49.8% of Indonesia’s population consists of women. Therefore, women are not a minority group. “By enhancing women’s capacity in this digital era, we can realise Indonesia as a child- and women-friendly shared space,” said the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection.
Digital literacy for women is a necessity, with women as the educators in the family. Through the digital world, information and knowledge are widely accessible. However, on the other hand, it can be a source of children being exposed to negative content.
“Families and society are expected to play an active role in creating a safe, healthy, and productive digital space for children and women. Especially in efforts to protect women and children in the digital era, particularly in preventing sexual violence and the unwise use of social media,” said the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection.
In 2025, there were 35,131 recorded cases of violence, with over 30,000 victims being children and women. Furthermore, 1 in 4 Indonesian women have experienced violence in their lifetime, with the most common cases being sexual violence within the family, including incest cases.
One of the triggering factors is the unwise use of social media. The government itself has taken steps to prevent such cases with PP Tunas No. 17/2025, which regulates the use of social media for children under age.
The Chair of the Presidium of the Indonesian Women’s Islamic Consultative Body, Dr. Iin Kendedes, M.Pd, warmly welcomed the organisation of the Alppind National Working Meeting.
“For advanced families, we must build strong family resilience in this digital era. Resilient families emerge from resilient women as child educators for the nation’s progress. We need empowered women and protected children towards Golden Indonesia 2045,” said Iin Kendedes. According to her, Indonesian women must start adapting to technology and online media that are beneficial for Indonesia’s progress.
In line with the exposition of the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection and the Chair of the Presidium of BMIWI, the General Chair of ALPPIND, DR. (HC) Atifah Hasan, Lc., stated that the Alppind National Working Meeting is considered to have strategic significance as a forum for formulating and agreeing on the organisation’s vision, mission, and work programme in the digital transformation era.
“Women have an important role in facing various social, mental, and digital threats, so they need to be continuously strengthened as the pillar of national civilisation,” said Atifah Hasan.
In her remarks, the Chair of the Alppind National Working Meeting Committee, Hani Hendayani, SE, reported that in this event, which will take place from 8-10 May 2026, there are 24 representatives from 32 regional board delegates of Alppind. “We greatly appreciate the presence of regional board representatives who have made efforts to attend this important event amid the current conditions,” said Hani Hendayani.
