Families of Navy Soldiers Killed in Cisarua Landslide Receive Housing Compensation
A total of 23 heirs or families of Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) soldiers who fell victim to the landslide disaster in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, have received housing compensation.
Indonesian Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Maruli Simanjuntak symbolically presented the housing compensation at the Marine Corps Headquarters in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (18 February).
“We are providing a gesture of compassion. A gesture of compassion, yes. For the families, we have given them houses, that’s it,” said Maruli.
Additionally, Maruli stated that the victims’ extended families would be given priority should they wish to enlist in the military.
“Earlier, several people also expressed that some of their sons wish to join either the Army or the Air Force,” he said.
In this disaster, the bodies of 23 soldiers who were victims have been recovered. Nineteen soldiers have been identified and buried, whilst four others remain unidentified.
The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has officially concluded the search-and-rescue (SAR) operation.
Over the course of 22 days of operations, the joint SAR team evacuated a total of 101 body bags.
The West Bandung Regency Government has also officially terminated the emergency response status for this disaster.
