False information leads to arrest

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta immigration officers have arrested a Chinese citizen for applying for an Indonesian passport using fake documents, an official said on Wednesday.

Hamsuk S. Wijaya, coordinator of Jakarta immigration affairs, announced that the man, identified as Lim Chen Sun, 33, was arrested on Friday.

In the passport application, Lim, who hails from Fujian, China, claimed to be an Indonesian citizen named Hendra Wijaya, Hamsuk said.

Lim was arrested after immigration officers became increasingly suspicious due to conflicting information he gave during an interview and because he could not speak Bahasa Indonesia fluently, he said.

He said that during the interview Lim claimed to live on Jl. H. Tholib in Cipete district, South Jakarta. "But later Lim said he moved from one place to another like Surabaya, Semarang, Jakarta and Puncak (near Bogor)," Hamsuk said.

When the officers managed to get him to reveal his real identity, Lim said he was a Chinese citizen and had come to Indonesia in 1994, Hamsuk said.

Lim previously worked at securities firm PT Rashid Hussain at the Jakarta Stock Exchange building as a research analyst for two years. He changed his named to Hendra Wijaya in 1995, Hamsuk said. He last lived at the Wesling Condominium on Jl. Kedoya Garden in West Jakarta. (hhr)
