Fallout from Jokowi Diploma Row: Eggi Sudjana Says Rizieq Shihab Has Frozen TPUA
Former chairman of the Front Pembela Islam (FPI), Rizieq Shihab, who also serves as a member of the advisory board of the Tim Pembela Ulama dan Aktivis (TPUA, Team of Defenders of Clerics and Activists), has frozen the TPUA organisation.
TPUA chairman Eggi Sudjana said the move was prompted by the prolonged controversy surrounding allegations that Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo, held a forged diploma.
Eggi explained that the decision to freeze the TPUA was conveyed during a meeting with Rizieq Shihab on Sunday (15 February).
During the meeting, he said, two key matters were discussed: the internal turmoil within the TPUA and the withdrawal of the organisation’s mandate for an indefinite period.
“The TPUA has been frozen by Habib Rizieq. Its mandate has been withdrawn, so to speak, and I, together with DHL (Damai Hari Lubis), have willingly handed it over. DHL was the secretary-general under me,” he told reporters at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) on Wednesday (18 February).
Eggi said Rizieq subsequently advised him to focus on championing truth and to join the Komando Pelaporan Bela Islam (Korlabi, Islam Defence Reporting Command).
Separately, he noted that Rizieq also stated he would not interfere in the police reports filed by Eggi and Damai Hari Lubis against Roy Suryo and Ahmad Khozinudin.
He added that Rizieq also disagreed with statements labelling him and Damai Hari Lubis as traitors.
“According to Habib Rizieq, that is a personal matter between DHL and myself. It has nothing to do with Habib Rizieq. And Habib Rizieq does not wish to be involved in the matter, as it is a legal issue between myself and Ahmad Khozinudin and Roy Suryo,” he said.
Previously, Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis had reported Roy Suryo and his legal representative, Ahmad Khozinudin, to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) on allegations of defamation and libel.
“It is confirmed that on Sunday, 25 January 2026, two police reports were received regarding allegations of defamation and/or libel, as well as defamation through electronic media,” said Budi when contacted by reporters on Monday (26 January).
Budi stated that the reports from Eggi and Damai were received by Polda Metro Jaya as two separate police reports. In the report filed by Eggi, he named Roy Suryo and Khozinudin as suspects. In the report filed by Damai, he named Roy Suryo alone.
“The complainants feel that their reputations have been damaged by statements made by the reported parties in the media,” he said.
