Fallout from Acid Attack on Kontras Activist Andrie Yunus: TNI's Kabais Position Officially Handed Over
The impact of the acid attack on Kontras activist Andrie Yunus is beginning to affect the upper echelons of military intelligence structures. TNI Headquarters has confirmed that the position of Head of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais), previously held by Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, has been officially handed over.
The Head of the TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen), Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, described the move as a form of institutional accountability amid the ongoing investigation process.
“As part of accountability, the handover of the Kabais position has been carried out today,” Aulia stated during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/3).
However, the statement has raised new questions. When pressed by journalists on whether there has been a change of officials or merely a temporary handover, Aulia provided no detailed explanation. This lack of transparency has only fuelled speculation about internal dynamics at play.
The case itself has implicated several active personnel from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais). Four TNI members—Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES—have been designated as suspected perpetrators in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.
To date, all four are still undergoing examination by the TNI’s internal investigation team. This process has drawn public attention, particularly regarding the extent of the military institution’s accountability and openness in handling cases involving its own personnel.
This development marks a new chapter in the case’s handling, while testing the TNI’s commitment to maintaining integrity amid intensifying public pressure.
