A falling tree crushed a house in Teluknaga District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Monday (31/8). An 11-year-old girl, identified by the initial H, was reported to have died in the incident.

Achmad Taufik, head of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said the tree fell onto the house while three children of the homeowner were sleeping.

“Three people became victims, consisting of one victim with the initial H, aged 11, who died, and two victims with the initials S, aged 14, and S, aged 10, who suffered injuries,” Taufik said.

The three victims were evacuated to hospital for medical treatment. However, H died from the injuries she sustained.

Taufik said the tree is believed to have fallen because its roots had become brittle. The tree is thought to have been quite old.

“The information is that the roots were already brittle, possibly because the tree was old,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Tangerang Regency BPBD is still carrying out operations at the scene. Personnel from the Kosambi Fire Station (Damkar) have been deployed to remove the tree that fell on the house.

“Personnel from the Kosambi Fire Station are still evacuating the fallen tree,” Taufik said.

As of now, the Tangerang Regency BPBD has not been able to confirm the value of material losses caused by the incident.
