Falling lift kills 1, injures 2

JAKARTA: A lift at Atmajaya Hospital's funeral parlor in North Jakarta fell on Friday, killing one person and injuring two others.

Penjaringan Police deputy chief Adj. Comr. Suyanto said that the incident occurred at 6 a.m. on Friday, while three people traveled from the ground floor to the third.

He said the lift plunged suddenly, killing Andi Barata (56), a resident of Puri Kencana I housing complex at Pabuaran, Bekasi, and injuring Pujiono, 31, and Agus, who both lived at BTN housing complex in Karawang, West Java.

"Pujiono sustained a fractured bone in his right leg, while Agus was concussed," he was quoted by detik.com as saying.

Suyanto said that the injured victims were being treated at Atmajaya Hospital, while Andi's body had been taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital for a post mortem examination.

The police are investigating the incident and have been questioning two workers from the funeral parlor.--JP
