Fallen While Escorting UN Convoy, Family in Cimahi Awaits Captain Inf Zulmi's Remains
An atmosphere of sorrow enveloped the home of Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar in Kampung Cikendal, Cipageran Ward, Cimahi Utara Subdistrict, Cimahi City, West Java. The TNI’s finest soldier fell while carrying out a UN peacekeeping mission in South Lebanon.
Observations at the location on Tuesday night (31/3) showed condolence flower arrangements filling the yard of the mourning house. Mourners from relatives to fellow comrades continued to arrive to express their deep condolences for the officer who perished while escorting a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) vehicle convoy.
Chronology of the Tragic News
The cousin of the deceased, Risman Efendi, revealed that the family initially received information on Monday (30/3), but confirmation came only a day later.
“At first, there was news since Monday, but we couldn’t confirm it right away. It was only on Tuesday around 4 p.m. that our brother was truly confirmed to have fallen in Lebanon,” said Risman when met at the mourning house.
Awaiting the Return of the Remains
To date, the family is still in intensive communication with the TNI unit regarding the repatriation process of the remains from Lebanon to the homeland. “We are still waiting for news on the return; the remains are still there (in Lebanon). Until now, the family is still waiting for news from the unit commander,” added Risman.
Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar was a soldier serving in Group 2 Kopassus/Para Commando since 2015. He had been carrying out duties for the past year as part of the TNI Konga XXIII-S Task Force UNIFIL in Lebanon.
The family hopes that the bureaucratic process and repatriation can proceed smoothly so that the deceased can soon be buried in his birthplace.
