Faldo, Langer will battle at Masters
JAKARTA (JP): World beaters in golf, England's Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer of Germany will lead a pack of 120 players, vying for the top honor in the Alfred Dunhill Masters at the Emerald One layout in November.
World number three Faldo and his number five counterpart will be the two world class golfers to watch at the US$400,000 tournament. They will be among a field of 120 players, including 40 of the best Asian golfers and leading professionals from the PGA Australasian Tour, in the fray for a four-day event at the newly established par-72 golf link located some 25km southeast of Jakarta.
The $400,000, in cash prizes, up for grabs is an increase of $55,000 over last year's inaugural Alfred Dunhill Masters held in Bali.
"We are delighted to be bringing the event to Jakarta and are confident that the fine players expected to take part will ensure that the tournament will be the highlight of the golfing year not only in Indonesia but also in Asia," Richard Cole, Managing Director of Alfred Dunhill Pacific Region, said.
The $400,000 cash prizes is the largest on offer in Indonesia's pro golf history and proves to be one of the most exciting golf tournament ever seen in the country.
"We are delighted to be returning to Indonesia, this time to the exciting city of Jakarta," Jacqualine Lane, the company's Regional Marketing Director, said.
This, he added, is a major event on the international golfing calender and certainly one of the most important golf events in Asia.
The tournament, to be held Nov. 2 to Nov. 5, will be jointly sanctioned by Indonesia Golf Association and the PGA Australasian Tour and will be preceded by the Pro-Am on Nov. 1. (rsl)
