The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the North Penajam Paser (PPU) Police, East Kalimantan, has uncovered a series of prominent criminal cases unsettling the public. A major focus is the criminal fraud case involving a digital payment mode using a counterfeit QRIS.

PPU Deputy Police Chief, Commissioner Roganda, in a press conference held on Thursday (4/6), revealed that the fake QRIS case occurred at a kiosk in Girimukti Village, Penajam District, on 21 May 2026. Police have detained two suspects from Balikpapan, identified as MS (27) and ANA (25).

“The perpetrator took advantage of the shopkeeper’s habit of not checking the incoming transaction records into their own account. As a result, the victim suffered a loss of approximately Rp1.9 million,” said Roganda.

Besides the digital fraud case, the PPU Police also uncovered a large-scale theft at the PT ITCI Kartika Utama area in Sepaku District. A suspect with the initials KA (32), a fisherman, was arrested for theft resulting in losses reaching Rp50 million. Evidence seized from suspect KA includes various stolen items.

Criminality has also targeted the education sector, with SMP Negeri 21 Penajam losing several computers and laptops from the teachers’ room and laboratory, incurring losses of tens of millions of rupiah. The PPU Police are also handling a case of threats involving a sharp machete at the PT APMR workplace, triggered by a dispute between employees. Suspect NN (41) has been detained by officers for further legal proceedings.

On the other hand, for several minor theft cases such as the theft of PDAM water meters and oil palm fruit, the PPU Police are applying a restorative justice approach as part of a fair case resolution. “All law enforcement processes are proceeding according to procedure. We are committed to taking action against any criminal acts that disturb the community in order to maintain stability in the North Penajam Paser region,” stressed Roganda.
