Fake Pocong Rumours Spread, Banten Police Step Up Patrols to Prevent Crime
Banten Police Chief Inspector General Hengki has urged the public to remain calm and not be provoked by information or videos of fake pocong appearing at residents’ homes late at night. He confirmed that the widespread social media rumours about pocong are untrue. Banten Provincial Police and district-level units (Polres) have intensified local patrols to anticipate potential criminal activities exploiting public anxiety over the fake pocong rumours. ‘We do not want public unease to be exploited by certain parties to commit crimes such as theft, robbery, or other public order disturbances. Therefore, we urge residents to enhance community vigilance,’ said Police Chief Hengki on Monday. Hengki assured that public order and security in the Banten Police jurisdiction is currently fully secure and controlled. The increased patrols are solely to guarantee optimal safety for residents. ‘We call on all residents to maintain unity, avoid panic, and collectively create a safe and conducive public order environment,’ he added. The police chief further urged the public to be discerning in receiving information and not to spread unverified content. ‘We ask the public to remain calm. If suspicious activity is observed, report it immediately to the nearest police station or via the 24-hour call centre at 110,’ he concluded.
