Fake land titles found in N. Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta office of the National Land
Agency has uncovered 118 fake land certificates, North Jakarta
Mayor Suprawito said over the weekend.

Suprawito told reporters the fake certificates are duplicates
of legally issued titles.

"There was also one fake certificate which had been duplicated
up to 10 times," Suprawito told Antara news agency.

Head of the land agency, Sjahran Hasan, said his office
discovered the documents were not valid when people submitted
them to check the legal status of plots of land they planned to
purchase.

Sjahran urged Jakartans not to hesitate to check the validity
of land documents at his office because only through the National
Land Agency can they detect whether the documents are the
original land titles or not.

"Please check all of the land documents with our office before
buying land," Sjahran said, adding that his office has completed
415 certificates filed by the public this year.

Sjahran also announced that his agency will issue 400 land
certificates for residents in the least developed kampongs in the
capital in the near future. (yns)
