The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has disclosed that four suspects in the alleged extortion of Indonesian House of Representatives member Ahmad Sahroni have committed similar acts more than once. “From the initial information we received, the incident last night, where they pretended to be KPK employees and claimed they could arrange case handling, is not the first time these individuals have done this,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the agency’s office in Jakarta on Friday (10/4). Budi could not provide further details as the matter is still under investigation by the Metro Jaya Police team. “So, we will wait for the examination process there, see what the results are, and respect it together,” he added. KPK, in collaboration with Metro Jaya Police, arrested the four individuals who claimed to be emissaries from KPK leadership on suspicion of demanding US$17,400 from the House member on Thursday (9/4) night. The member in question is Ahmad Sahroni. “The joint team from KPK and Metro Jaya Police secured four people suspected of posing as KPK employees capable of arranging case handling at KPK,” Budi said on Friday (10/4). Budi noted that the suspects were apprehended in West Jakarta. “During the operation, the team also seized evidence in the form of US$17,400 in cash,” he added. Budi explained that the modus operandi involved the culprits claiming to be dispatched by KPK leadership to collect money from the House member. “The secured parties were immediately taken to Metro Jaya Police for further examination,” Budi stated.
