Fake Habib Assaults Eight Female Students at Semarang Islamic Boarding School

A man claiming to be a habib has been arrested for sexually assaulting eight underage female students at an Islamic boarding school in the Susukan area of Semarang Regency. The Semarang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, AKP Bodia Teja Lelana, stated that the suspect, identified by the initials AJS (56), a resident of Salatiga, initially came to the boarding school as a guest. Over time, the suspect began serving at the school and then claimed to be a habib. The assaults took place between 2023 and 2024, with the perpetrator using religion as a pretext to carry out his actions. The suspect lured victims by threatening that if they refused, they would face difficulty in earning a livelihood and would be committing a sin. The incident was eventually reported in May 2025, as the victims had been afraid because of his status as a habib. As the suspect was uncooperative, police carried out a forced pick-up. At least eight underage female victims have been recorded, and police have not ruled out the possibility of additional victims. The perpetrator is currently in detention and has been named a suspect. He has been charged under the Child Protection Law.
