FAJI Continues Coordination Regarding Rafting Competition at the 2028 PON
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Rafting Federation (FAJI), Oni Junianto, stated that his organisation continues to coordinate with the host regions regarding the organisation of the rafting competition at the National Sports Week (PON) 2028.
“Yesterday, we held a final meeting, where NTT itself is ready to host the event. With this, the support from the Chairman of KONI, Marciano Norman, will automatically be a step to ensure that the competition can be held,” said Oni in Jakarta, Saturday.
According to Oni, the confirmation of rafting as a sport in the 2028 PON in Nusa Tenggara Barat and Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTB-NTT) will be determined during the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of KONI.
He said that the readiness of the host regions is an important factor in ensuring that rafting is included in the list of sports at the 2028 PON.
Meanwhile, Chairman of KONI, Marciano Norman, supports FAJI’s efforts to include rafting in the 2028 PON.
Previously, rafting was featured in the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra PON and is now being proposed to be included in the sports competition at the 2028 PON.
“At the 22nd National Sports Week in 2028, NTT-NTB are working closely with the host regions to ensure that the proposed sports can be competed,” said Marciano.
He believes that the participation of rafting in the 2024 PON is an important milestone in the development of the sport in Indonesia.
In addition, Marciano also appreciated the achievements of Indonesian rafting athletes who won gold medals at the International Rafting Federation (IRF World) Rafting Championship 2025 in Perak, Malaysia.
According to him, this achievement is a source of pride and also shows the positive development of national rafting.
The list of sports that will be competed in the 2028 PON will be decided at the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of KONI this year, which is scheduled to take place on May 21, 2026.
