Fairytale house has tales to tell

JAKARTA (JP): Storytellers from the house of fairytales, Rumah Dongeng Indonesia, have come up with a thoughtful surprise for parents and children.

Children can hear their ears off about friendship, love, adventure, UFOs and much more in a live show, as professional storytellers are to spin moral tales for them at a nine-day show of stories from the archipelago beginning on Oct. 11.

Professional storyteller Wess Ibnu Sayy told reporters last week that he and his colleagues from Rumah Dongeng Indonesia (The House of Fairytales) will entertain the children at the event, which will take place at the Ministry of Agriculture's camping field in Ragunan, South Jakarta.

The narrators will include comedian Deddy "Miing" Gumelar.

Wess said he would tell stories about Gomli's (the hero) adventures with his spaceships, with computers, with aliens, trapped on Planet Jupiter, and several others.

Wess explained the need for character-building and initiating a stronger bond between parents and children through storytelling.

"When confronted with important decision-making situations in the long run, they (children) will know which path to choose," he said. (02)
