Failed to Topple Iranian Government, Mossad Claims Mission Incomplete, to Continue After War
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHERAN – The ceasefire in the Iran versus US-Israel war will end on 21 April 2026. The first-stage negotiation process is still at an impasse. The US is opening options for a second round of talks in the near future.
Amid negotiation efforts mediated by Pakistan, instead of supporting peace, Israel’s Mossad is strengthening its resolve to topple the Iranian government.
Mossad Director David Barnea stated on Tuesday that the intelligence organisation will not stop until the fall of the Tehran government. The Mossad mission is considered unfinished.
“Our mission is not yet complete. We do not think that our mission will end immediately after the fighting subsides, but we are planning, and [indeed] we plan to continue, and this will be realised even after the attacks on Tehran,” Barnea said, as quoted by Israeli media Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
This is the first time a Mossad chief has openly discussed the agency’s role and views on regime change in Iran.
After failing to overthrow the Iranian government in the early weeks of the war, and even after the ceasefire was implemented, various Israeli and American officials have attempted to blame Mossad and Barnea for the failure.
