Failed Motorcycle Thief Points Gun at Security Guard in East Jakarta

Residents thwarted a motorcycle theft on Jalan Pendidikan in the IKIP Complex, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta. The perpetrators fled after pointing a gun at a security guard.

The motorcycle’s owner, Muhammad Isan Alfalah, recounted that the incident occurred on Sunday (22 February) at approximately 05:30 local time, just as he was about to go to sleep.

“I was just about to drift off when my wife woke me up saying there was a thief. I saw my motorcycle had fallen over, and the complex security guard was there. I asked which way the thief had fled,” Isan said, as reported by Antara on Monday (23 February 2026).

The suspects’ actions were spotted by complex security guards who were on patrol. The guards gave chase, but the perpetrators brandished a pistol and managed to escape.

One of the security officers struck a suspect with a baton, but the perpetrator still attempted to make off with the motorcycle.

The suspects ultimately escaped through the left side after all the complex’s security barriers had been closed. They climbed over a decorative plant pot approximately 10 centimetres high.

Isan said he heard shouts of “thief” in front of his house and saw his Yamaha N-Max motorcycle had been knocked over. The two suspects fled towards the exit barrier.

“They tracked the escape route using walkie-talkies. The suspects doubled back in front of the complex’s alleyway and got out past the side of the barrier that had already been closed,” Isan said.

He added that the complex security guards were threatened with being shot when the suspects pointed their firearm at them. Fortunately, he said, none of the guards were shot and his motorcycle was saved from the theft attempt.

“Thank God, everyone is safe, and my motorcycle is safe too. I wasn’t personally threatened — only the security guards received the threat of being shot,” Isan explained.
