Fahd Arafiq Repeatedly Involved in Corruption, Golkar to Evaluate Member Development
The Deputy General Chair of the Golkar Party Central Executive Board, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, has emphasised that the legal case once again ensnaring Fahd El Fouz Arafiq serves as a momentum for deep evaluation within the party. The designation of Fahd as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the third time represents a serious note regarding the pattern of member development moving forward.
“We are certainly taking many lessons from Mr Fahd’s case. This incident will serve as a note for our evaluation and correction in the future,” Doli stated in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Doli expressed concern and regret regarding the arrest of the Golkar Central Executive Board Head for Religious Organisation Relations. He emphasised that the party has consistently reminded all members to avoid illegal practices, particularly acts of corruption.
According to Doli, this recurring case should serve as a turning point for Fahlar to engage in self-introspection. To date, Golkar has provided space for members who have completed their sentences to return to service as a form of respect for their efforts to redeem their mistakes.
However, Doli assessed that the trust provided by the party was not accompanied by a change in the individual’s personal behaviour. While acknowledging Fahd’s contributions to the party’s development, Doli asserted that such actions are a personal responsibility that damages the institution’s image.
“The individual does not realise that on his shoulders rests the great name of the Golkar Party, which must be protected. Naturally, as the large family of the Golkar Party, we are very disappointed and angry,” he asserted.
Furthermore, Doli stated that Golkar fully respects and supports the legal process currently being conducted by the KPK. He described this as a manifestation of the party’s commitment to the eradication of corruption in Indonesia.
The designation as a suspect in the case involving the Ministry of ATR/BPN marks the third time Fahd has dealt with the anti-corruption agency within the last decade. The KPK is attempting to maximise criminal sanctions, as his status as a recidivist means Fahd A Rafiq’s legal position could potentially lead to a much heavier sentence.
