Fadli Zon: Subsidised Fuel Price Stability Proves People's Economy Policy
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party, Fadli Zon, stated that the government’s decision not to raise the price of subsidised fuel oil (BBM) proves a policy that favours the people.
“The government’s step to maintain subsidised BBM prices is, in my view, a very appropriate measure,” said Fadli Zon in Jakarta on Wednesday, regarding opinions suggesting that domestic BBM prices should be increased in line with the rise in international oil prices.
Fadli Zon, who is also the Minister of Culture, said that President Prabowo’s economic school of thought is a people’s economy and Pancasila economy, not a capitalist one.
He stated that if a country adheres to market economy principles, BBM prices would follow market rates.
Currently, he said, many countries immediately adjust their domestic BBM prices according to market prices. Even the people of the United States are complaining due to the rise in BBM prices.
However, Fadli Zon said, Indonesia continues to keep subsidised BBM prices stable. With subsidised BBM prices not rising, inflation is controlled, thereby preventing increases in the prices of other goods. This policy is expected not to burden the public.
Prabowo, said Fadli Zon, bases his policy decisions on Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.
He stated that the land, water, and natural resources contained therein are controlled by the state and used for the greatest prosperity of the people. “This is what we are upholding,” he said.
