Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon described the close relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and the late retired TNI General Ryamizard Ryacudu. According to Fadli, the two were close since their time as cadets at the Military Academy (Akmil), graduating in the same year — 1974. ‘The President also expressed his respect for the late general as he knew him personally from their cadet days,’ Fadli Zon said after paying respects at Ryamizard’s resting place at the Ministry of Defence in Central Jakarta on Monday. Thus, Fadli said, the President’s respect for Ryamizard was shown through his final salute at the late general’s coffin. ‘That demonstrates his closeness to the late General Ryamizard Ryacudu,’ Fadli added. Fadli said he held Ryamizard in high regard, describing him as a firm leader who was straightforward and to the point without unnecessary formalities. ‘He was straightforward, always speaking his mind plainly,’ he added. Fadli expressed hope that Ryamizard’s policy legacy, ideas, and example would be carried forward by future leaders. Meanwhile, former Kopassus Commander and retired TNI General Agum Gumelar shared Fadli’s view of Ryamizard’s firmness. ‘He was a firm officer, a high-ranking official with a decisive stance — firm yet humane. Though his appearance seemed stern, he was compassionate,’ Agum said during the same visit. Beyond his firmness, Agum noted Ryamizard was also known for mentoring junior officers during his TNI service. When asked about memorable joint missions in the TNI, Agum said there were many, but declined to elaborate. ‘Many, all memorable,’ Agum added.
