Fadli Zon Reveals Over 100 Figures Proposed for Medals and Honours
The Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, has explained a recent meeting with President Prabowo Subiability in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java. Fadli stated that he reported a number of figures proposed by members of the public to be awarded medals and honours.
“Yesterday, in my capacity as the Chairman of the Council for Titles, Medals, and Honours (GTK), I reported inputs from ministries, agencies, and the community, including the arts and culture community. These are individuals who have been recommended to receive awards. These are not national heroes,” said Fadli Zon at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/9/2026).
Fadli noted that the medals and honours are intended for community figures across various sectors, ranging from artists and cultural figures to medical professionals. He added that this plan was presented to Prabowo during their meeting in Hambalang on Tuesday (1/9).
“These are for medals and honours across various fields. Whether it be community figures, artists, cultural figures, or perhaps figures from various backgrounds, such as medical professionals or others who have rendered significant service,” Fadli Zon said.
“I must submit these inputs to the President, and they will be reconsidered later. There are quite many—more than a hundred,” he added.
Furthermore, Fadli disclosed discussions regarding figures to be awarded the title of National Hero this coming November. He stated that the conferment of national hero titles considers many factors.
“The process for national heroes is currently underway. As is known, the designation of national heroes follows a bottom-up approach. There is a research team, known as TP2GD, consisting of regional researchers. Then there is the central TP2GP, a research team at the centre under the Ministry of Social Affairs,” he explained.
Fadli mentioned that names screened from the regency/city and provincial levels, up to the Ministry of Social Affairs, will be further reviewed by the Council for Titles, Medals, and Honours. The announcement of national heroes is expected on Heroes’ Day, 10 November.
“Once the research is completed at the regency/city and provincial levels through the TP2GP and the Ministry of Social Affairs, it will then be submitted to the Council for Titles, Medals, and Honours for further review before being presented to the President. The announcement usually takes place on Heroes’ Day,” said Fadli Zon.
On the same occasion, Fadli addressed the possibility of Prabowo’s late economist father, Soemitro Djojohadikoesoemo, and his grandfather, Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikoesoemo, being included in the proposed list of national heroes. Fadli admitted he did not yet know.
“I do not know (about the possibility),” said Fadli Zon.
“It is possible, but as far as I know, they are not currently in our list,” he replied.
