JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Culture Minister Fadli Zon has stated that he has prepared a team to address the lawsuit from Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XIV Purboyo.

Fadli Zon is being sued by PB XIV Purboyo at the Jakarta State Administrative Court (PTUN) regarding objections to the Minister of Culture’s Decree regulating the appointment of Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan as the executor of the development of Keraton Surakarta.

“So, regarding the PTUN lawsuit from Purboyo’s side, we have certainly anticipated it and prepared a team from the Ministry of Culture,” said Fadli when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

Fadli explained that the Ministry of Culture’s decision, which he signed, is based on Law No. 5 of 2017 on Cultural Advancement.

“And everything has been prepared. I think this is also a right to do so, so it can be tested,” he said.

Fadli emphasised that in this matter, the interests of the government and the state are to advance Indonesia’s national culture amid the world’s civilisations, in accordance with Article 32 paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution.

Fadli added that Keraton Surakarta has been a national-level cultural heritage since 2017, but many assets there have been neglected.

Previously reported, based on a search on the Case Information Search System (SIPP) page of PTUN Jakarta, Purboyo’s lawsuit against Fadli was registered on 16 April 2026 with case number 129/2026/PTUN JKT.

In the data, Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XIV is listed as the plaintiff with legal representative Ardi Sasongko, while the defendant is the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.

PB XIV Purboyo’s side had previously expressed objections to the Minister of Culture’s Decree regarding the appointment of Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan as the executor of the development of Keraton Surakarta.

At that time, PB XIV Purboyo’s legal representative, Sionit Tolhas Martin, said that they had sent an objection letter to the Ministry of Culture.

He stated that if there was no response within a certain period, legal action would be taken.

“If within 90 days it is not responded to, or there is no change, then we consider it unlawful,” he said.

“Then we will file this as a lawsuit to PTUN,” added Sionit.
