Fadli Zon pledges to facilitate the All Indonesia Composers Association in their push for royalties
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Culture Minister Fadli Zon is ready to facilitate the hopes and inputs of the All Indonesia Composers Association (Aksi) regarding music royalties. ‘We will certainly facilitate what Aksi hopes for and we will convey it to the relevant parties, namely the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and also the DPR’s Legislative Body,’ Fadli Zon said at a press conference held in Jakarta on Wednesday. He said this would strengthen a healthy, fair, proportional and constructive music ecosystem for various parties. He said a good music ecosystem would help Indonesian music develop rapidly, sustainably and advance. On the same occasion, Aksi’s General Chairman Satriyo Yudi Wahono or Piyu Padi said that through the national congress of composers of all Indonesia, they hope to restore the mandate, rights and sovereignty of songwriters. In front of the ranks of the Ministry of Culture and the Creative Economy, he called for the sovereignty of songwriters, namely private rights over works. ‘So it should not be seized, reduced or arbitrarily forced by any party including other institutions,’ Piyu said. The restoration of the mandate of copyright law thus confirms that in using or exploiting a work one must obtain permission from the songwriters. Next is the establishment of a Lembaga Manajemen Kolektif (LMK) dedicated to music performances that are deemed urgent. ‘This is something we also deem urgent because to date music performances or concerts are not truly protecting the rights of composers as many performances use works without permission,’ he added. Ahmad Dhani, the Chairman of Aksi’s Board of Patrons, also added that they are tireless in fighting for composers’ rights especially in concerts, because they have yet to be accommodated. ‘We fight for concerts that are licensed by the creators,’ he said.
