Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon stated that Eid al-Adha can be interpreted as a spirit to strengthen awareness of environmental conservation, with the Earth and its ecosystems being a shared responsibility for all humanity.

‘I believe this is a global issue. We, especially Muslims and all of humanity, must preserve nature, as maintaining ecological balance is crucial,’ he said, responding to a sermon titled ‘Strengthening the Spirit of Sacrifice, Caring for Nature and Humanity’ delivered by UIN Alauddin Makassar Rector Prof. Hamdan Juhannis during Eid al-Adha prayers at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Fadli Zon noted that humanity’s connection to nature is inseparable, as the environment is a shared habitat sustaining life.

Therefore, in modern civilisation, nature should not merely be viewed as a resource to exploit but as part of a living system that must be sustained.

‘We must maintain the balance between ourselves and nature, our shared habitat. Eid al-Adha should be understood as obedience to Allah’s commands, as well as a spirit of sacrifice, sincerity, social solidarity, tolerance, and togetherness, especially in facing any situation,’ he explained.

He expressed hope that the spirit of social solidarity, sacrifice, and perseverance in preserving the environment would be maintained to ensure sustainable life for all.

‘This is highly relevant to the current geopolitical situation, and I hope our social solidarity and sacrificial spirit for shared goals can be realised with great strength,’ he added.
