Jakarta, Kompas.com - Culture Minister Fadli Zon plans to create a special logo for Indonesia’s intangible cultural heritage, including traditional food products, similar to the halal labeling concept. According to Fadli, the logo would add value and educate the public about Indonesian cultural products. ‘If this food has become intangible cultural heritage, then that is Indonesian cultural heritage, you know. We eat intangible cultural heritage. It has added value,’ Fadli said after a media briefing on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. Fadli explained that the foods designated as Warisan Budaya Tak Benda (WBTB) would bear a special emblem in the form of an official logo or mark. ‘So it’s like a halal logo,’ he added. Thus, people will not only buy food but also learn about the history and culture behind the product. ‘Thus, people have education, and that will also become added value, extra value for the sellers that what they make, what they sell, is a Warisan Budaya Tak Benda Indonesia,’ he clarified. Fadli said the logo design is being developed with Indonesian artists involved in the Venice Biennale. In the future, every national cultural heritage site that has been designated will have official signage complete with the logo and digital information such as a barcode. ‘Thus, the National Cultural Heritage that has been designated will have its emblem,’ he said. Fadli noted that Indonesia currently has around 2,727 intangible cultural heritages. He hopes the official logo will strengthen national cultural identity while also driving a culture-based creative economy.
