Jakarta — Culture Minister Fadli Zon has stated that Kuningan Regency in West Java has the potential to become a cultural enclave in the West Java region through various tangible and intangible cultural heritage assets.

Speaking from Jakarta on Thursday, the Culture Minister cited examples including the Seren Taun traditional ceremony and several historical sites such as the Cipari Archaeological Site, Graha Wangi, Sutan Syahrir House, and the Linggarjati Agreement Building Museum.

“There are many historical sites that can be visited in Kuningan, such as the Linggarjati Agreement Building Museum, Sutan Syahrir House, and also several museums in the area,” said the Culture Minister.

Fadli made these remarks during a meeting with Kuningan Regent Dian Rachmat Yanuar to discuss cultural advancement plans for Kuningan Regency, including museum revitalisation and strengthening the regional economy through culture.

Regarding the Linggarjati Agreement Building Museum, the Culture Minister has encouraged the mapping of collections to be exhibited at the museum to enrich its heritage and strengthen the museum’s narrative. The minister proposed including one notable collection: a sketch by renowned artist Henk Ngantung depicting the Linggarjati Agreement.

“One renowned painter, Henk Ngantung, also made a sketch during the Linggarjati Agreement. He came and painted the participants of the Linggarjati Agreement who were present, creating an on-the-spot sketch,” he explained.

“Kuningan Regency has cultural depth that can continue to be explored for cultural and regional economic development. Some of the steps we will take include revitalising cultural heritage sites, digitising museum collections, and mapping cultural advancement objects,” said Dian.

The Ministry of Culture continues to support efforts to preserve cultural heritage sites and strengthen the cultural advancement ecosystem in various regions, especially Kuningan Regency. Through strategic measures, the Ministry of Culture is committed to ensuring that cultural heritage is preserved whilst providing benefits for current and future generations.
