A member of the TNI has become the focus of attention after he died, allegedly shot by a fellow military personnel in Palembang, South Sumatra.

The victim who died was Private First Class F (23) and the suspected perpetrator is identified as R (23 years old). F served at the Regional Health Detachment (Denkesyah) in Palembang.

Denkesyah is part of the Regional Military Health Service (Kesdam) under the Indonesian Army’s Central Health Command (Puskesad).

The shooting incident occurred on Saturday, May 16th, early in the morning at 02:40 WIB.

Here are the facts surrounding the TNI member being shot by a fellow soldier:

Location of Incident at a Cafe

IB I Palembang Police Chief Kompol Fauzi Saleh confirmed the incident and revealed the location. “It is true that there was an incident last night at Kafe Panhead, where one person died,” said Fauzi.

The altercation between military personnel allegedly occurred due to a misunderstanding while dancing at the cafe. Private First Class F and R then argued, leading to a fight.

At that time, the perpetrator allegedly took out a firearm he was carrying and fired one shot towards the victim.

Wound on the Abdomen

As a result of the shooting, Private First Class F suffered a wound to the right side of his abdomen.

He was then rushed to Permata Palembang Hospital for medical treatment. However, F’s life could not be saved.

The TNI is Conducting an Investigation

The II/Sriwijaya Military Command (Kodam) ensured that the handling of the incident would be carried out seriously, professionally, and transparently.

“The Commander has ordered the Deputy Chief of Intelligence of Kodam II/Sriwijaya and the Commander of the Military Police of Kodam II/Sriwijaya to immediately handle the situation in the field through a thorough investigation, so that there is no misinformation or development of incorrect opinions in society,” said the Head of Public Information of Kodam II/Sriwijaya, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Yordania.

He stated that Denpom 2/IV Palembang is still investigating the incident, including examining witnesses at the scene, reviewing CCTV footage, conducting an autopsy on the body, and collecting evidence.

The TNI, continued Yordania, is also coordinating with the South Sumatra Police to support the objective and comprehensive disclosure of the facts.

Family Speaks Out

F’s younger sister, Faraditha (19), said she was very shocked by her brother’s death.

The family, she said, asked that the perpetrator who allegedly shot the victim to death be dealt with firmly.

“We ask that the perpetrator be punished severely and dismissed from the TNI,” said Faraditha.
