A severe fire at the Cimuning Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) in Mustika Jaya, Bekasi City, West Java, resulted in several injuries. The incident, which also engulfed nearby residents’ homes, is now under police investigation.

The event occurred on Wednesday evening, 1 April 2026. The flames were only extinguished after several hours on Thursday early morning, 2 April 2026.

Preliminary suspicions indicate the fire stemmed from a gas leak from the main tank. Police have deployed a forensics team to investigate the incident further. Here are the facts compiled by detikcom on Friday (3/4/2026).

Fire Triggers Explosions, Extinguished After 6 Hours

The fire at the Cimuning SPBE was accompanied by explosions. The flames raged fiercely.

The fire broke out on Wednesday (1/4) around 9:30 PM WIB. It was extinguished after six hours, precisely at 3:45 AM on Thursday (2/4).

The blaze, originating from the gas cylinder filling facility, triggered a series of large explosions. The fire location, adjacent to residential areas, caused several residents’ homes near the SPBE to be affected by the flames.

Nine fire trucks were deployed to the scene at Jalan Cinyosog, Bantar Gebang, Cimuning, Mustika Jaya Subdistrict, Bekasi City.

Dozens of Residents’ Homes Also Burned

The fire at the Cimuning SPBE spread to residential areas. Dozens of residents’ homes were destroyed by the incident.

“15 residential houses (RT02 RW003), 4 residential houses, 2 kiosks (RT 01 RW 003),” said Acting Head of Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Agency, Heryanto, to reporters on Thursday (2/4).

Meanwhile, the Bekasi City Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded damage to residents’ homes. One musala (small mosque) was also affected by the fire.

“For moderate damage, four kiosk units, then for minor damage there are 10 house units and one musala,” said Head of Emergency and Logistics Section of Bekasi City BPBD, Idham Kholid, as reported by Antara on Thursday (2/4).

BPBD Bekasi City also noted three market stalls, six SPBE trucks, and seven two-wheeled vehicles with severe damage. Meanwhile, material losses from the fire in the area of approximately 2,000 square metres are still being calculated.

“The number of victims is 17 people. Indeed, there are several burn victims exceeding 50 percent,” said Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, at Citra Arrafiq Hospital, Bekasi, on Thursday (2/4).

The victims receiving treatment include F (30) with 18 percent burns, S (17) with 63 percent burns, D (25) with 27 percent burns, as well as W and A who did not suffer burns but are under medical observation.

Initial Suspected Cause of Fire

Acting Head of Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Agency Heryanto in Bekasi, West Java, revealed that the fire at the Cimuning SPBE area is suspected to have started from a gas leak at the scene.

“We await the results of the investigation by the authorities, including regarding the cause of the fire. However, the info is a gas leak. This information I got from a statement by one of the residents near the location,” said Heryanto, as reported by Antara on Thursday (2/4).

He suspects the fire that triggered the blaze came from an electrical short circuit near the SPBE, leading to an explosion and engulfing the area.

“Because residents said there was a gas smell. So the trigger is one of them a short circuit in the electrical current causing a gas explosion. That’s based on information,” he said.

Current Conditions at Fire Scene

Observations by detikcom on Thursday (2/4/2026) show police lines installed in front of the burned SPBE gate. The SPBE gate is tightly closed.

The blue-coloured SPBE gate appears affected by the fire. Inside the SPBE, blackened buildings and dried tree trunks from the fire are visible.

The burnt smell from the fire is still detectable at the scene on Jalan Cinyosog, Bantargebang, Cimuning, Mustika Jaya Subdistrict, Bekasi City. Thin smoke was also seen in shophouses near the SPBE.

Police lines have been set up in the fire area. Several shophouses were also burned to rubble.

Forensics Team Investigates Fire Cause

Currently, police are still investigating the fire incident. The forensics team has been deployed to uncover the exact cause of the fire.

“The cause of the fire accompanied by explosions and fire bursts is currently under investigation by Bekasi Metro Police Resort involving forensics to find the cause of the incident,” said Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when contacted by reporters on Thursday (2/4).

Budi said the fire impacted residents’ buildings, stalls, shops, and scrap warehouses around the location. Several buildings suffered severe damage.
