Facts of the Kidnapping and Rape Case of a Female Student in Makassar, Using Fake Job Advertisements as a Ruse

Ferry Daeng Rumpa (31), the perpetrator of the kidnapping and rape of a 21-year-old female student from North Kalimantan, was arrested at Tanjung Priok Port in Surabaya, East Java.

The perpetrator carried out his actions by offering a job as a babysitter.

“Yes, the perpetrator has been arrested while in Surabaya,” said Makassar Police Chief, Kombes Pol Arya Perdana, on Sunday (17/5).

This case began when the perpetrator posted a job advertisement on Facebook, offering a position as a babysitter. The victim, who was interested, contacted the perpetrator and was asked to come to a house that had been prepared by the perpetrator.

The victim was held captive and raped for 3 days.

Upon arriving at the location, the victim was told that the babysitting job was not yet available and was asked to temporarily work as a domestic helper. The victim stayed and worked in the house for two days.

“However, on the third day, the perpetrator allegedly began carrying out his heinous act. He entered the victim’s room and threatened her with a cutter to prevent her from screaming or resisting before raping her,” he said.

The victim also had her belongings stolen. The perpetrator took money, a mobile phone, and even the victim’s motorcycle, which he then sold.

Her hands were tied and her mouth was taped shut.

While in the house, the victim was also allegedly held captive. Her mouth was covered with tape, while both of her hands were tied.

“After being repeatedly raped, the victim finally managed to free herself and escape from the location,” he said.

The perpetrator was arrested in Surabaya.

After receiving a report from the victim, the police immediately launched an investigation. The investigation revealed that the house used by the perpetrator was actually a daily rental with a rate of Rp300 thousand per day, not his permanent residence.

“Initially, officers suspected that the perpetrator had fled to Sumatra because he came from that region. However, the investigation revealed that the perpetrator had instead fled to Surabaya by sea,” he explained.

The police tracked his escape and eventually arrested him.

Looking for new victims.

Arya stated that initial investigations suggest that the perpetrator had prepared a similar scheme in Surabaya.

“In fact, before arriving in the city, the perpetrator had already posted fake job advertisements on Facebook again to look for new victims,” he said.

A repeat offender of vehicle theft.

In front of the police, the perpetrator admitted that this was his first time carrying out a similar act in Makassar, but police suspect there may be other victims. In addition to this case, the perpetrator is also said to have been involved in motorcycle theft in Takalar Regency.

“We are still investigating the possibility of other crimes committed by the perpetrator. For now, no indication of a network has been found; the perpetrator acted alone,” he said.
