Two suspects in the case of allegations of a fake diploma for Jokowi, Tifauziah Tyassuma alias Dr Tifa and Roy Suryo, were arrested by police on Friday (19/6) morning at almost the same time. The arrests occurred after the Jakarta Metropolitan Police stated that the case files for Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa had been declared complete, or P21, by the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office on 2 June 2026.

The arrests immediately drew protests from their legal team. In an official statement, the legal team for Dr Tifa and Roy Suryo presented a number of facts from their perspective.

Dr Tifa was arrested at her apartment. One of Dr Tifa’s lawyers, Azis Yanuar, said his client was arrested on Friday morning at around 06:47 WIB. Azis stated that his party had confirmed with investigators that the morning’s action was an arrest. “The legal counsel for Dr Tifa, who are members of the Dr Tifa Defence Team (TPDT), confirmed with the investigators handling the case that the police action carried out this morning was an arrest,” Azis said.

Azis mentioned that at the time of the arrest, his client was about to take a dissertation exam, or S3 programme exam, at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. After being arrested, Dr Tifa was immediately taken to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters. Azis said that despite the arrest, Dr Tifa still took her dissertation exam online. He shared a photo of Dr Tifa sitting in a room, which he said was within the Jakarta Metropolitan Police premises. In the photo, Dr Tifa is seen opening a laptop, which Azis said was being used to take the dissertation exam.

Shortly after Dr Tifa’s arrest, police proceeded to arrest Roy Suryo. Roy Suryo’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin, said Roy was arrested around 07:00 WIB in the morning.

The legal team for Roy Suryo strongly condemned the arrests of both their client and Dr Tifa. Ahmad Khozinudin stated that the arrests were inappropriate because his client had always been cooperative in fulfilling police summonses. Furthermore, his client had never failed to comply with mandatory reporting to the police. He believes the arrests of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa prove there was intervention from external parties. Khozinudin even explicitly stated that the arrests were nothing more than a reflection of the law serving Jokowi’s interests.

“This arrest actually confirms that there is a political force intervening in the law, so that civilised methods of law enforcement through summons are abandoned and replaced by uncivilised, repressive, and intimidating methods by making arrests,” he said.

As of the writing of this report, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had not yet provided an official statement regarding the arrests of the two suspects in the Jokowi fake diploma allegation case, Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa.
