It has emerged that the man who was killed whilst sleeping with his wife and child at his home in Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul was a member of Brigade Joxzin, a community organisation. The incident occurred last Wednesday.

The following facts have emerged:

MEMBER SINCE 2019

The victim, Kitin Yoga Tama Rustamaji (36), had long been a member of Brigade Joxzin. “The victim was indeed a member of Joxzin since 2019 and held valid Joxzin membership credentials,” said Mohamad Novweni, a member of Brigade Joxzin’s Legal and Human Rights Team, when met by journalists at Bantul Police Station on Friday (22 February 2026).

JOXZIN DELEGATION VISITS POLICE STATION

Yesterday, Novweni and a delegation from Brigade Joxzin visited Bantul Police Station. They hoped the murder case concerning their colleague would be resolved. The delegation wore black clothing bearing the green Joxzin logo. A representative was received by the Bantul Police Chief for an audience.

“Today, our members have submitted an open letter to the Police Chief. The Police have already informed us of efforts they have undertaken in cooperation with the Regional Police to resolve this case quickly,” Novweni told journalists at Bantul Police Station.

In the open letter, Brigade Joxzin urged swift resolution of the case to prevent unrest in the community. “We call upon Bantul Police to immediately resolve the case against the suspected perpetrators to prevent any unrest in the field or mutual accusations about who the suspects are,” said Novweni.

“We, the entire Brigade Joxzin family, demand that Bantul Police act quickly and arrest the perpetrators of this murder within 48 hours from the date this letter is sent,” he added.

ALLEGED MOTIVE OF REVENGE

Novweni suspected that a long-standing grudge was behind the murder. “The Police also mentioned that no items were missing from the house. We therefore suspect the incident occurred due to elements of revenge that have festered for some time,” he said.

VICTIM ATTACKED WHILST SLEEPING WITH FAMILY

A man was previously reported killed after being attacked with a machete at his home in the Kaliurang area, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul. The attack occurred inside the house whilst the victim slept with his wife and child in the living room on Wednesday (25 February) at 05:30 WIB. Two perpetrators wearing face coverings attacked the victim. After successfully striking the victim with a machete, the perpetrators left the house. The victim’s five-year-old child sustained no injuries, whilst his wife suffered injuries whilst attempting to ward off the attack.

FOUR ACQUAINTANCES QUESTIONED

Police stated they had questioned several witnesses regarding the murder of the Brigade Joxzin member in Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul. “To date, four witnesses have been questioned,” said Iptu Rita Hidayanto, Head of Public Relations at Bantul Police Station.

The four witnesses questioned were friends of the victim. According to initial information, the four witnesses were gathered at the victim’s house at the time of the incident. “The four witnesses were friends who had gathered at the victim’s house before the incident,” said Iptu Rita Hidayanto.

“We have not yet been able to question the victim’s wife as she is still grieving. As a follow-up, we will request a statement from the victim’s wife today,” she added.

PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN CONFRONTATIONS

Brigade Joxzin revealed that its deceased member, who was killed by unknown perpetrators at his home in Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul, had previously been involved in confrontations with another group. The victim, Kitin Yoga Tama Rustamaji (36), was an entrepreneur.

“From information provided by fellow Joxzin members in the area, there were reports of previous confrontations with another group,” said Novweni.

However, Novweni admitted he did not know which group was involved. Moreover, the confrontation between the victim and the other group had allegedly occurred several weeks before the incident. “That confrontation happened a few weeks ago, then a few weeks later this incident occurred,” he said.

Nevertheless, Novweni said he did not wish to speculate about the origin of the group involved in the confrontation with the victim. His organisation has handed over the case to Bantul Police. “We cannot speculate about whether the perpetrators are from another community organisation or elsewhere, as everything has been handed to the police who are investigating,” he said.

During his membership in Brigade Joxzin, Novweni stated that the victim had never had problems with other members or rival groups. “Whilst a member of Joxzin, he never had problems, either with members or other groups,” he said.

Regarding the victim’s background, Novweni revealed he was known in daily life as an entrepreneur. His business was related to livestock rearing. “The deceased was an entrepreneur who raised fighting cocks. He would raise chicks and then breed them,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have provided little information regarding the victim’s previous involvement in confrontations. Police are currently conducting their investigation.
