Facts about the DPRD Chairmen's Retreat at Akmil Magelang
The National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) is holding a retreat for hundreds of Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD) chairmen from 15 to 19 April 2026. This training activity is taking place at the Akademi Militer (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java.
Retreats have frequently been conducted during the Prabowo Subianto administration. Previously, retreats were also mandatory for ministers in the Merah Putih Cabinet and regional heads. - Number of DPRD Chairmen Retreat Participants
The retreat agenda invites 557 DPRD Chairmen throughout Indonesia. The breakdown includes 38 Provincial DPRD Chairmen, 93 City DPRD Chairmen, and 415 Regency DPRD Chairmen.
Eleven officials from the All-Indonesia Regency DPRD Chairmen Association are also participating in this retreat. However, only 479 out of the total 557 DPRD Chairmen are recorded as attending the retreat.
Hundreds of these DPRD chairmen are required to arrive on time and participate in all retreat activities. The regional legislative chairmen participants are also required to stay at the Akmil Magelang glamping site and follow all regulations there.
- DPRD Chairmen Retreat Materials
DPRD Chairmen retreat participants receive several training materials. The main materials cover national values including strategic environmental developments, strengthening national identity, national vigilance, strengthening leadership roles, Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, and weaving diversity. In addition, Asta Cita, Vision and Mission, and President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes will be discussed in depth.
The main theme of this event is “Strengthening the Role of Provincial/Regency/City DPRD Leaders to Support Asta Cita Towards Golden Indonesia 2045”. This programme is organised as a strategic instrument for training as well as ensuring the implementation of the government’s Asta Cita.
- Objectives of the DPRD Chairmen Retreat
Lemhanas Governor Ace Hasan Syadzily stated that the purpose of the retreat for all DPRD Chairmen is to increase the institution’s capacity in facing national and regional development challenges. “Participants are encouraged to become strategic partners of local governments and agents of change,” said Ace on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.
In addition, he stated that the purpose of this DPRD Chairmen retreat is to build synergy between central and regional governments, as well as to shape perspectives, reaffirm national commitments, and strengthen the role of DPRD leaders in realising the Golden Indonesia 2045 aspirations.
Because, Ace said, DPRD Chairmen have an important role in guiding and realising Asta Cita at the regional level. DPRD, he said, is not only the bearer of legislative, budgeting, and oversight functions over local governments.
“But also the guardian of harmony between national interests and local aspirations. A strategic role that determines whether development can run in harmony or become fragmented,” said Ace.
According to him, the existence and glory of a nation are rooted in the integrity and capacity of its leaders. Therefore, Lemhanas is organising a strengthening course programme for DPRD leaders at the provincial, city, and regency levels through this retreat.
Ace stated that Indonesia, as an archipelagic nation that is diverse, faces ongoing turbulent geopolitical dynamics. “This situation demands regional legislative leaders who are not only competent in carrying out budgeting and legislative functions, but also possess depth in national vision,” he said.
