Facts about the Bantul man who was hacked to death while sleeping with his wife and child
A man died after being hacked in his home in Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul. The incident occurred while the victim was sleeping with his wife and child. Police said the perpetrators were two people. Here are the facts.
The Perpetrator Wore a Face Covering
The Head of Public Relations of the Bantul Police, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, said the incident began when the witness, RPS (34), a resident of Argomulyo, was sleeping next to her husband, TYR (36) and their child in the living room at 05.30 WIB, yesterday. Then, RPS heard the back door of her house open.
“After that, the perpetrator who was wearing a face covering (mask) immediately swung a machete at the victim who was still sleeping,” she said to reporters in Bantul, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
At that time, RPS managed to deflect the machete swing from the perpetrator. As a result, three of RPS’s middle fingers suffered lacerations.
“Even though it was deflected by the witness, the perpetrator’s machete swing hit the victim’s face, stomach and fingers,” she said.
After hacking TYR, the perpetrator immediately left TYR’s house. Meanwhile, TYR’s child, who was five years old, was not injured.
“The witness then informed her neighbors and then reported it to the police,” she said.
Machete Wounds on the Face and Stomach
Police and medical officers immediately arrived at the scene. Based on the examination, TYR suffered lacerations on his face, 10 cm long.
“Then there were lacerations on his stomach to his thigh, 20 centimeters long and 10 centimeters deep,” she said.
The thumb of TYR’s right hand also suffered a laceration, 4 cm long. Meanwhile, the victim’s condition during the examination was already dead and was then taken to the Bhayangkara Hospital of the DIY Police.
“From the medical examination, the wound on the victim’s stomach caused bleeding which led to his death,” she said.
No Valuable Items Taken
Rita added that from the results of the investigation, no valuables were taken by the perpetrators. So the incident was purely a murder.
“The number of perpetrators is estimated to be two people, one perpetrator entered the victim’s house and the other waited on a motorbike to the west of the victim’s house,” she said.
Regarding how the perpetrators managed to enter the victim’s house, Rita said that at the time of the incident, the victim’s door was not locked.
“Currently, the police are still investigating the murder case in Argomulyo,” she said.
Witness Testimony After the Incident
Residents around the location of the murder victim in Sedayu, Bantul, said that the victim’s wife had come to ask for help. As for the details of the incident, no one knew it at that time because the atmosphere was quiet.
The night watchman of the Agro Industrial Park I of the Mercu Buana University of Yogyakarta, Arifin (45), said that he was initially sitting outside his workplace. Entering 05.20 WIB, Arifin was visited by the victim’s wife, RPS (34).
“So I was sitting and then a woman came walking with a child, she asked for help, please help her husband,” he said to detikJogja in Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
Seeing this, Arifin asked RPS to go to the security post.
“After that, I and the security guard went to the location together, but at that time I was outside,” he said.
The reason he was still outside, Arifin continued, was because he didn’t understand medical treatment. Arifin then contacted the local RT chairman.
“I didn’t dare to handle it, so I reported it to the RT chairman and finally everyone went there around 06.00 WIB,” he said.
Regarding the atmosphere at the location of the incident, Arifin said it was quite quiet.
“At that hour, there are rarely vehicles passing by, especially after the dawn prayer, people usually rest. And on a daily basis, it’s not crowded here, only a few motorbikes pass by,” he said.
The Victim’s Wife Covered in Blood
The local RT chairman revealed that the victim’s condition at that time was covered in blood.
The Chairman of RT 1 Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul, Samidi, said that when he arrived at the location, he found his resident, TYR (36), already in a dead position. In addition, TYR’s condition at that time was covered in blood.
He said that he received a report from the night watchman of the Agro Industrial Park I of the Mercu Buana University of Yogyakarta, Arifin, at 05.30 WIB. Samidi then rushed to TYR’s house.
“When I arrived at the location, I immediately went inside the house, then to the living room and it turned out that the victim was lying with blood all over him,” he said to detikJogja in Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
Samidi did not dare to touch TYR. In fact, Samidi only stood at a distance of 1.5 meters from TYR’s body.
“Then I made sure the victim was dead and I immediately reported it to the Sedayu Police,” he said.
Furthermore, the police came to examine the victim and carry out a series of investigations.
“Then the police came to the location,” he said.
On the other hand, Samidi revealed that the victim’s wife, namely RPS (34), also suffered injuries due to the attack using a machete. In addition, Samidi said that the perpetrator entered from the side door of the victim’s house which happened to be unlocked.
“His wife suffered lacerations on three of her fingers and received 17 stitches. She was immediately taken to the nearest hospital. As for that (the perpetrator entered from where), from the information, the perpetrator entered from the side door,” he said.
The Perpetrator is Two People
The police said that the suspected perpetrators were two people.
“Still under investigation, there are two perpetrators,” said the Chief of Police of Bantul, AKBP Bayu Puji Hariyanto, to reporters at the Bantul Police, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
Bayu continued, his party is also investigating the involvement of the victim, initials TYR (36), who is said to be a member of one of the social organizations.
“For that (the victim is a member of an ormas), we are still investigating,” said Bayu.
