REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON – A large fire broke out at a coal briquette factory in Blok Pejagan Asem, Palimanan Barat Village, Gempol District, Cirebon Regency, on Sunday (17/5/2026) at around 00:30 WIB. The fire was finally brought under control after about six hours of firefighting efforts.

The Head of Firefighting, Rescue, and Infrastructure Division (PPSP) of the Cirebon Regency Fire Department, Eno Sujana, explained that based on information from the employee on duty, smoke was initially seen coming from behind the oven room located north of the main building. Flames were visible through the gap in the oven door.

However, the employee could not open the door because it was locked with a padlock. To open the door, the employee eventually used a grinder to cut off the padlock.

“Once the door was opened, a large fire was seen. The cause of the fire is suspected to be due to excessive heat,” said Eno.

The employee then immediately sprayed the area using a portable fire extinguisher (APAR). In addition, he also requested assistance from the Palimanan Sector Fire Department.

The firefighters from the Palimanan Sector Region then immediately headed to the location. Upon arrival at the location, the fire was seen to be large and the firefighters immediately began extinguishing it.
