Facing Patient Pressure, KDS Emphasises Resilience of Healthcare Workers
The Regent of Bandung, Dadang Supriatna, has asserted that improving the quality of healthcare services is not merely about building facilities, equipping technology, or providing medicines. According to him, the quality of service is ultimately determined by the human resources who interact directly with the public.
This was stated by the Regent, known as KDS, while serving as a speaker at the ‘Akademi SDMK Hebat Series 2’ via Zoom meeting on Thursday (24/9/2026). The event was attended by the Head of the Health Office, the Head of the BKPSDM, and directors of regional public hospitals in person.
On behalf of the Bandung Regency Government, KDS expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all parties organising the event, as well as to all healthcare personnel in Bandung Regency.
“I also express my great appreciation and thanks to all healthcare human resources in Bandung Regency,” said KBS.
He recalled his early days as the Regent of Bandung in 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic remained a significant challenge. He noted that healthcare workers were on the front lines in providing services to the community.
“I remember when I began my duties in 2021; at that time, the Covid condition was at its peak. Naturally, healthcare workers were heroes because they were on the front line. Hopefully, what you all have done will always be rewarded by Allah SWT,” he said.
KDS noted that healthcare workers face the public every day to provide care, treatment, and health maintenance. Such conditions require healthcare personnel to possess the ability to handle pressure, including pressure from patients and their families.
“You are all people who face the public every day. This task is not easy. Much like the theme of this SDMK Academy, which is resilience in facing patient pressure,” he remarked.
According to KDS, the Bandung Regency Government is committed to continuously driving improvements in healthcare services. However, quality service should not be measured solely by the completeness of facilities or technology.
“Quality healthcare is not just about facilities, technology, medicines, or service systems. Ultimately, it is about the humans providing the service,” he emphasised.
Therefore, KDS requested all healthcare personnel to provide optimal services without discriminating based on the background of the community. He stressed the importance of fair, professional, and humane service.
“Never discriminate against the community; do not be selective in providing services. The public must receive good, fair, professional, and humane service,” he said.
KDS reminded that patients arriving at healthcare facilities are generally in need of help and are often accompanied by anxiety. Therefore, service involves not only medical actions but also how patients are treated.
“When people come to healthcare facilities, they may also need to be heard, respected, accepted, and treated with sincerity,” he said.
He requested that these values be applied in the daily conduct of healthcare workers. In his view, smiling, greeting, empathy, patience, and sincerity are integral parts of healthcare service.
“We must ensure that people who are ill and arrive in a state of anxiety needing help do not end up feeling fearful or unaccepted when receiving service,” he said.
Through the ‘Akaderm SDMK Hebat’, KDS hopes to form healthcare human resources with strong character and mentality, capable of maintaining mental health, supporting one another, and continuing to provide the best service despite various pressures and challenges.
He also hopes that the ‘BerAKHLAK’ values do not remain merely as a concept but are translated into behaviour and work culture when serving the community.
“We want to build a healthcare service in Bandung Regency that is humanist, professional, has integrity, and possesses a resilient mentality,” he said.
On the other hand, KDS shared several plans for strengthening the health sector, including improving facilities and fulfilling the need for medical equipment in several hospitals next year. He noted that the strengthening of facilities must go hand-in-hand with the improvement of human resource quality.
On that occasion, KDS also shared news regarding part-time PPPK (Government Employees with Work Agreement) healthcare workers. He stated that the Bandung Regency Government, together with APKASI, is fighting to ensure that part-time PPPK healthcare workers can be appointed to full-time positions starting in 2027.
“To the part-time PPPK healthcare workers, God willing, starting from 2027, you will be appointed to full-time status. This is one of the joys that we, together with APKASI, are fighting for,” he said.
KDS hopes that all these reinforcements will result in healthcare services that are increasingly felt by the community.
“I believe the progress of Bandung Regency is also determined by how well we serve the community. In the health sector, you all are the front line,” he said.
He also invited all healthcare personnel to work together to build a Bandung Regency healthcare service that is increasingly ‘Bedas’—fast, friendly, humanist, and equitable.
