Facing Multi-Domain Warfare, Indonesian Air Force Promotes Data Integration Mastery
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is encouraging the domestic defence industry to improve its ability to integrate data across domains to support the development of Multi-Domain Operations (MDO).
This push was conveyed by the Deputy Assistant for Planning and Budgeting of the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (Waasrena KSAU), Air Vice Marshal TNI Wastum, in an Air Force press release received in Jakarta on Thursday.
Wastum made these remarks while opening the 2026 Fiscal Year Defence Industry Coordination Meeting, organised by the Air Force Planning and Budgeting Staff (Srenaau) in Jakarta on Tuesday (29/9).
According to him, the domestic defence industry needs to play a role in strengthening the technological capabilities of main weapon systems (alutsista), particularly regarding data integration between domains.
Such integration is necessary so that various domains within an operation can utilise the same database, allowing for more integrated operations.
In addition to technological capabilities, Wastum believes that the defence industry must also improve maintenance capabilities to ensure the readiness and long-term sustainability of defence system operations.
“Therefore, collaboration between the Air Force, the defence industry, research institutions, and universities needs to be strengthened, from the formulation of requirements through to production and sustainment,” he said.
He noted that collaboration from the initial requirement formulation stage is essential so that the development of defence technology can be aligned with the operational needs of the Indonesian Air Force.
Through this coordination meeting, the Air Force hopes that the defence industry, research institutions, universities, and other stakeholders can formulate solutions to strengthen the national defence technology system.
The coordination meeting featured several speakers, including the Head of the Internet Information Sub-division of the Air Force Dispenau, Colonel Lek Ahmad Irvan, and the Director of Political, Legal, Defence, and Security Policy of the Deputy for Development Policy at BRIN, Dudi Hidayat.
Additionally, the meeting was attended by ASELSAN Project Manager Cemil Caglar Boke and ASELSAN Program Manager for Avionic Systems Haluk Şabi.
