Facing Eviction for BRT, Cicaheum Terminal Traders Hold Out as Compensation and Relocation Plans Remain Unclear

Dozens of traders at Cicaheum Terminal, Bandung, have chosen to continue trading despite a decline in bus activity following the diversion of routes to the terminal. They are persisting because the proposed compensation and relocation plans remain uncertain.

Iyas, a street vendor, explained that traders are staying at Cicaheum Terminal despite the decrease in passengers due to the lack of clarity regarding compensation and relocation. “The buses moved to Cicaheum Terminal about three months ago. Traders have not received clear information regarding compensation, although street vendors have,” he said on Thursday (30/07/202<0xA0>26).

He noted that he had received Rp 1 million in compensation from the party responsible for constructing the BRT depot, for which he expressed gratitude. However, he mentioned that the amount was not full, as there were deductions to cover those who had not yet received payments.

Despite having traded at Cicaheum Terminal for decades, Iyas stated he had accepted the Rp 1 million compensation, though he believes an ideal amount would be at least Rp 2.5 million. “Whether it is enough or not, I just accept it,” he remarked. Having traded there from his youth through to having five grandchildren, he expressed hope that the government would provide a new, bustling location for the traders to continue their livelihoods.
