Face Sketch Circulated as Woman Pretending to Mourn Snatches Condolence Money in Kramat Jati, Wanted
Police are seeking to identify a woman suspected of stealing condolence money in the Kramat Jati area of East Jakarta, using a facial sketch. ‘Identification is not yet comprehensive; we are checking it with a facial sketch. The investigation is ongoing,’ said Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKP) Fadoli, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kramat Jati Police Sector, on Friday, 6 March 2026. He said the sketch of the perpetrator was based on witnesses’ statements at the scene. However, the suspect has not yet been apprehended. ‘We have conducted further investigations, but there are no results yet. Perhaps because the case has gone viral, the perpetrator may have travelled far,’ Fadoli said. He added that investigators were still gathering information from the public to help identify the perpetrator. However, some information received earlier turned out not to match the facts on the ground. ‘Yesterday, there were reports that the person knew the victim, but it turned out not to be the case,’ said Fadoli. From preliminary information, the suspect is believed to have an address in Palembang, though this needs to be confirmed further. Meanwhile, the amount of condolence money allegedly stolen is not yet known for certain, as the donation envelopes from mourners have not been opened and counted by the family. ‘Because the contributions in the envelopes have not yet been opened and counted by the family, the amount is unknown,’ Fadoli said. Earlier, a woman who stole condolence money in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, was suspected of having engaged in similar acts at two different locations previously. ‘Yes, that’s correct, the same as the two previous incidents,’ said AKP Fadoli, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kramat Jati Police. Police said the same suspect had carried out similar acts at least twice in different areas with the same modus operandi, namely posing as mourners. Thus, the perpetrator has committed the crime three times. The two prior incidents occurred on Jalan Damai in the Lubang Buaya area on 22 December 2025 and on Jalan Bambu Kuning, Bambu Apus on 4 February 2026.
