PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 4 Semarang, Central Java, recorded that 148,274 long-distance train passengers at Tegal Station had utilised the Face Recognition Boarding Gate service up to July 2026. This figure represents an increase of 329 passengers, or approximately 0.22 per cent, compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 147,945 passengers. The increase demonstrates growing customer trust and enthusiasm for digital-based boarding services that offer a faster, easier, and more practical departure process. Through facial recognition technology, registered passengers only need to scan their faces for identity verification without showing physical documents or printing a boarding pass. In addition to providing convenience in the travel process, the use of the Face Recognition Boarding Gate also supports operational efficiency and the application of environmental sustainability principles. From January to July 2026, the use of this service has helped reduce the need for paper boarding passes, thereby reducing resource consumption and operational costs. Public Relations Manager of KAI Operational Area 4 Semarang, Luqman Arif, stated that the digital transformation continuously carried out by KAI aims to deliver an increasingly comfortable travel experience while supporting more effective and environmentally friendly operations. KAI Operational Area 4 Semarang will continue to optimise the use of digital technology to improve service quality for passengers. The development of technology-based services is part of the company’s commitment to providing safe, comfortable, efficient, and sustainable transportation.
