Fabricated Robbery: Riau Man Spent Funds on Online Gambling
A man in Kampar Regency, Riau, named Ilham (30), fabricated a police report claiming he had been the victim of a robbery. Investigations revealed that Ilham had actually lost tens of millions of rupiah through online gambling.
The case began when Ilham reported to the XIII Koto Kampar Police Station on Friday (5/6) at approximately 19:30 WIB. He claimed he had been robbed during the day at his home on Jalan Lintas Dusun IV, Bandur Picak Village, Koto Kampar Hulu.
βIn his report, the individual claimed to have experienced robbery involving violence, being held hostage, and being tied up,β stated Kampar Police Chief AKBP Boby Ramadhan Putra Sebayang, in a statement to journalists on Monday (8/6/2026).
Following the report, investigators from the XIII Koto Kampar Police Criminal Unit conducted an examination of Ilham and visited the scene to perform a forensic investigation. However, discrepancies emerged after the investigative team conducted a reconstruction of the crime.
Upon further questioning on Saturday (6/6), Ilham confessed that the robbery never occurred and was entirely fabricated. Separately, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Pelalawan Police, AKP I Gede Yoga Eka Pranata, noted that the inconsistencies became apparent during the reconstruction process. Police found his testimony suspicious because, despite claiming his eyes were blindfolded and his hands and feet were tied, he was able to identify the exact number of perpetrators.
Furthermore, suspicion grew when Ilham refused to allow police to inspect his mobile phone. Eventually, Ilham admitted that the robbery was a fabrication. He confessed to the police that he had lost Rp 75 million through online gambling.
Ilham resorted to faking the robbery to conceal his actions. The Rp 75 million in question was capital provided by a friend for a palm oil kernel business. Having lost the money to gambling and being unable to repay the debt, he orchestrated the false robbery report.
