Fable Officially Delayed to February 2027 to Avoid Clash with GTA 6

Highly anticipated fantasy action RPG Fable has been officially postponed from its original 2026 holiday release schedule to February 2027. The delay was not due to significant development issues but a strategic move to avoid intense competition in the gaming industry, particularly from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), which is expected to dominate global attention. The gaming industry is preparing for one of the most competitive cycles in history, with a slew of AAA titles set to flood the market. Xbox recognised that releasing the game too close to Rockstar Games’ latest title carries significant risks, including reduced visibility, declining sales momentum, and fragmented player attention. In its official statement, Microsoft openly noted that 2026 is packed with major Xbox titles, including Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and of course GTA 6. Microsoft moved Fable to February 2027 to ensure it receives the dedicated spotlight it deserves. This move is expected to be followed by other publishers adjusting their release schedules to avoid the GTA 6 market surge. The delay indirectly benefits developer Playground Games, known for the Forza Horizon series, by providing more flexibility in development time. The additional months will be used to refine the dynamic open-world design, improve NPC interactions, and stabilise combat mechanics to meet fans’ high expectations upon release. As a reboot, the game retains core elements such as moral decision-making affecting the story and character progression, but with cutting-edge visuals and deeper exploration systems. Although no specific February 2027 release date has been confirmed, Playground Games has promised to share new details soon. The studio confirmed Fable will feature in the upcoming Xbox Showcase on 7 June, where major unveilings will be revealed. Upon release, Fable will be widely available across Microsoft’s ecosystem, including Xbox Series X|S, PC, and day-one access via Xbox Game Pass subscription. Priced at approximately $69.99 (£55.50), following standard AAA game pricing, the title will also be accessible through Game Pass, allowing players to play without an upfront purchase.
