Exxon's Idle Well Reopened, Oil Production Increases by 3,500 bpd

The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) has revealed ExxonMobil’s success in reactivating an idle well at the Banyu Urip field, adding around 3,500 barrels per day (bpd) to national oil production. Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto said the C-12 well at the Banyu Urip field was previously forced to shut down because it had very high gas and water content, making it uneconomical to produce. The well was reopened by injecting special chemicals into the reservoir through the well to reach the perforation holes. This technology aims to block the flow of gas and water. As a result, the C-12 well is now flowing oil again at a production rate of 3,700 bpd, with gas content around 500 standard cubic feet per barrel and water content reduced to 9%, yielding net oil of about 3,500 barrels of oil per day. Djoko noted there are at least five other idle wells in the Banyu Urip field that could potentially be worked over using a similar method to increase national oil production.
