Extreme weather floods hundreds of homes in Bengkulu City to a depth of 1 metre

Water began rising since the night of (5/4) and remains high to this day. In some spots, it has even exceeded one metre, forcing our residents to save their belongings to safer places.

Bengkulu City (ANTARA) - Due to rain of moderate to heavy intensity accompanied by strong winds since Sunday night (5/4), hundreds of homes in Bengkulu City have been inundated by floods with varying water heights.

In Tanjung Jaya and Tanjung Agung sub-districts, water levels are currently observed to reach more than one metre, prompting several residents to secure their valuables to higher places.

“Water began rising since the night of (5/4) and remains high to this day. In some spots, it has even exceeded one metre, forcing our residents to save their belongings to safer places,” said the head of RT I in Tanjung Jaya Sub-district, Bengkulu City, Herman, in Bengkulu on Monday.

To this end, he requested that the Bengkulu City Government (Pemkot) conduct dredging in the Air Bengkulu River, so that water flow can be smoother and reduce the risk of flooding in the future.

Additionally, he hopes the government will provide assistance in the form of food and drinks to flood-affected communities, as daily activities are currently paralysed due to the flooding and residents cannot work or carry out normal activities because access is inundated with water.

Besides Tanjung Jaya and Tanjung Agung sub-districts, flooding has also occurred in Korpri housing, Ejuka housing, Rawa Makmur Sub-district.

Then Jalan Gedang Sub-district, Sukamerindu Sub-district, Kebun Beler Sub-district, Rawa Makmur Permai Sub-district, Sawah Lebar Sub-district, Nusa Indah Sub-district, Kebun Tebeng Sub-district, Lingkar Barat Sub-district, Jembatan Kecil Sub-district, and others.
