Ciamis (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Ciamis Regency, West Java, has reported that an assessment recorded 83 damaged houses scattered across several sub-districts due to extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, prompting repair efforts to enable residents to reoccupy their homes.

“Total of 83 houses affected, 48 lightly damaged, two moderately damaged, two severely damaged, 31 houses with completed handling reports finished through mutual cooperation,” said the Head of BPBD Ciamis, Ani Supiani, in Ciamis on Monday.

She explained that the heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, resembling a tornado, struck the Ciamis area, particularly the affected regions of Purwadadi, Cisaga, and Tambaksari sub-districts, on Saturday afternoon (28/3).

According to the BPBD Ciamis assessment, she said, houses with minor damage received immediate repairs, while those with moderate and severe damage will undergo further handling by relevant agencies.

“Educational facility SDN 2 Pasirlawang has minor damage, and one business unit’s tent warehouse has minor damage,” she stated.

She conveyed that the extreme weather not only caused damage to the roofs of house buildings but also led to several fallen trees.

The extreme weather also caused a landslide disaster in Mekarbuana Village, Panawangan Sub-district, which threatens two nearby houses.

A landslide also occurred in Kiarapayung Village, Rancah Sub-district, which temporarily blocked part of the road. Furthermore, a landslide in Buanamekar Village, Panumbangan Sub-district, poses a danger to one house.
