Extreme Weather: ASDP Tightens Safety Standards for Bakauheni-Merak Crossing During 2026 Eid Holiday Rush
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), the main Bakauheni branch, has tightened operational safety standards for passenger and cargo ferry crossings to ensure safe services during extreme weather conditions in the Sunda Strait waters throughout the 2026 Eid holiday rush.
This approach is being implemented through intensive weather monitoring, fleet readiness inspections, and strengthened coordination with various port authorities.
Partogi Tamba, General Manager of ASDP’s Bakauheni branch, stated that weather monitoring is conducted regularly with support from the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG).
“Of course, BMKG is our partner in monitoring current weather developments in the Sunda Strait waters,” Partogi said in Lampung Selatan on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
Anticipating Extreme Weather
According to Partogi, extreme weather conditions continue to occur frequently in the Sunda Strait waters. Therefore, ASDP continuously strengthens safety standards in every crossing operation, both for passenger transport and logistics.
“We continue to strengthen coordination with various related parties, such as BMKG, the Police, and the Ground Transport Management Centre (BPTD) to anticipate and ensure the safety of ship passengers,” he said.
Inter-Agency Coordination
In daily operations, ASDP implements various supervisory measures before departing ships, ranging from weather condition monitoring, ship readiness checks, to coordination with numerous related agencies.
Agencies involved include the Port Authority and Harbour Master’s Office (KSOP), the Ground Transport Management Centre (BPTD), BMKG, as well as elements of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Indonesian National Police.
“We are also given access by BMKG to directly monitor current conditions in the Sunda Strait waters. The safety of service users is our top priority. We work with all stakeholders to ensure ferry services remain optimal,” he said.
Advice for Service Users
ASDP also advises the public who will use the ferry service to always monitor weather information and follow the guidance of officers whilst in the port area.
“ASDP is committed to providing the best service and ensuring that public mobility continues to run smoothly, safely, and orderly,” Partogi said.
